June 10, 2011 marks the day that Security Shield malware hit the web. The Security Shield name has been used in the past by another malware client. This time it seems to be in 3 different names so far, Security Shield, Security Shield Pro and Security Shield 2011.
What can make things even more confusing with the name is there is a legitimate anti-virus client out there called Security Shield. It’s not uncommon for these malware makers to use a name similar to a real anti-virus client in hopes of trick the user into making a purchase.
Security Shield so far is a know clone of System Tool, Security Tool, Total security 2009. Based on those past infections we are going to assume that this client will follow suite. System Tool is the most widely spread malware client in 2010 according to RemoveVirus.org . They based this off of the amount of views they had to their malware removal guide.
